Have you ever wanted to tag people who sign up to a landing page, only to realise that it isn’t possible with the new ConvertKit landing page builder?
Never fear because even though it isn’t in the landing page builder itself, you can easily tag people after they sign up to a landing page via an automation.
There are two types of automations in ConvertKit:
- Visual Automations
- Automation Rules
We’ll look at visual automations first.
Create an automation
In the top menu in your ConvertKit account, click on the Automations link.
Then click on the New Automation button.
This will take you to a screen with two options: Browse Templates or Create Automation. Click on the Create Automation button.
You’ll get four options and Joins a Form should be already selected. Leave that as the selected option.
You might be wondering why we are using this option when you want to tag people who sign up to a landing page and not a form. The reason is that in automations, a form and a landing page is effectively the same thing.
In Choose a form drop down, select your landing page. Then click on the Add Event button.
Click on the + directly below the box that has the name of your landing page (the event). This allows you to add a new Event, Action or Condition.
You want the Action option, which should be already selected (don’t change this). Next, click on Add or remove tag.
In the drop down, search for the tag you want to add. You can also create a new one. Then click on Add Action.
The automation will be paused by default. To activate, click on the button in the top right corner
Alternative: use a rule
The alternative is to use a rule instead of a visual automation.
In the top menu in your ConvertKit account, click on the Automations link.
Then click on Rules from the sub menu.
You’ll land on the Automation Rules page. Click on the Add Rule button.
On the left hand side, you’ll see Trigger. A trigger is a thing that happens that you want to act on. An example of a trigger is Subscribes to a form.
On the right hand side, you’ll see Action. An action is what you want to happen after the trigger happens. In this case, it is add a tag.
In the Trigger section, click on Subscribes to a form. Then choose the name of your landing page from the drop down. In the Action section, select Add tag. In the drop down, search for the tag you want to add. You can also create a new one.
Finally, click on Save Rule.
Wrapping up
Even though you can’t add a tag in the landing page builder, you can in either a visual automation or an automation rule.
